I Love All Your Comments Even the Negative Ones

 I love getting your feedback, comments and emails. And I love getting reactions out of people. I will even blog about an opinion that I don't even necessarily share just to see the reaction it gets.  

 I'm the type of person that will start argument over a belief I don't even have just for the sake of arguing, or to test how strong the other persons beliefs are. 

 But most of the time these are my actual opinions. 

 I'm almost 40, I don't like new music. I hate Dave Grohl for being nothing more than a celebrity who produces extremely lame and formulaic "pop" rock. I thinkTrent Reznor's best days ended in 1994 with "The Downward Spiral." I believe Kurt Cobain's death was a suicide not some far reaching conspiracy, and I hate The Blues as well as bands like KISS, Creed, U2 and Bon Jovi and 80's Hair Metal. I think guitar players today wear their damn guitars way too low and I find Heavy Metal just too damn loud these days.

 I love Classic Rock like The Beatles, and Pink Floyd and old Punk Music like The Sex Pistols, and Iggy Pop, and 90's Music like Nirvana and Alice in Chains, and some bands currently making music like Radiohead and The Black Keys. I also like System of a Down. I miss the old days of sex, drugs and rock and roll, and I think all rock stars should take heroin.

Trent Reznor is Halfway to an EGOT: And Other Reasons Why He Sucks

  In 1994, Nine Inch Nails was making music that was dark, subversive, disturbing, intense, sexy and maddening. Their live shows were unpredictable, and sometimes even felt a little dangerous.

 I saw two NIN shows in 1994. (I've seen 3 total) One small venue with Type O Negative and the "Lesbian Spice Girls" that were officially known as Fem2Fem.  And one large stadium show with a relatively unknown Marilyn Manson and the freaks of The Jim Rose Circus Sideshow. Both shows were great.

 Trent Reznor broke keyboards, repeatedly pushed and shoved  his band members around on stage while they were playing, and even threw a keyboard at the drummer during a song, bringing down the entire drum kit in the process. A short intermission immediately followed while they set back up again. Fans assaulted each other and even lit a MASSIVE bonfire on the arena floor. I've seen fires lit at concerts before but I've never seen one this big before, or since. 

 Stories also circulated around town about how NIN had a whole floor of a local hotel room booked and people reported seeing strange sights like naked women walking the halls on all fours with dog collars and ball gags.

 Going to a concert and not knowing exactly what's going to happen, or even if you're going to make it out safely. Danger, loud fast music, voilence, weird sex shit. Music video's with severed pigs heads, monkeys on crosses, naked bald bitches, S&M. That's what rock music is all about.


And this one time at a NIN show...Someone even offered me DRUGS! I even took a video of it (see below)

  

But these days Trent Reznor should probably lay off the fatty foods.

If you're gonna sit there and tell me that Trent Reznor still rocks then this is the reaction you're going to get from me.

 The Downward Spiral ended being a very prophetic name for Trent Reznor's last great NIN album, because ever since he has taken a downward spiral into unremarkable electionic lameness.

 Trent Reznor has always been the "DIY" guy of rock music but for years now all the crap I've been hearing just sounds like something any hipster douche with Pro Tools and a laptop can do.

I don't care how many Oscars Trent Reznor wins. The music has lost his edge. It's boring adult contemporary, irrelevant, that no longer has a powerful message or artistic relevance. It's went from cutting edge Electronic/Industrial Metal to middle aged synthpop.

CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT THIS GUY?

 IS HALFWAY TO A FUCKING EGOT?

 

CASE CLOSED. SIR YOU HAVE FAILED TO ROCK!

I wonder what he will end up doing to get that EGOT?

IN CONCLUSION, 

I guess when you get middle aged, start getting a little fat, stop doing drugs, start winning Oscars and start making a little money, what happens to you is the one thing that seems to kill most rock stars eventually...

and no I'm not talking about plane crashes.

I'm talking about getting civilized. The Trent Reznor of NIN thru 1994 was a young, angry dude who just didn't give a fuck about anything. 

What does an almost 50 year old man with money, and Oscars and Grammy's have to possibly be angry about?

Young, hungry, broke, and pissed off seems to be the formula for great rock and roll. And why is that? Because the majority of the Rock and Roll audience is young, hungry, broke and pissed off. You loose that and you loose touch with your fans.
